Brits hilariously mock American mum for correcting daughter's way of saying porridge

Who doesn't love a warm bowl of porridge with fruits?

It might be filling, not to mention very good for people trying to reach their protein goals. Now to mark World Porridge Day on Thursday (October 10), we couldn't help but laugh at one American mum who tried correcting her daughter hungry for a bowl.

In celebration to the annual event, , user @santindarainitaly, who has 404,000 followers, wrote in a caption: "No no Goldilocks, that's not what we call it in this American home." The clip starts with the words: "American mum corrects Italian daughter."

The hilarious clip shows a daughter in the background asking for porridge, while the mum replies in shock. Discussing how her favourite characters cherish a bowl of porridge, the mum replies in Italian: "But it's not called porridge." So what is it then?

Even after claiming it's called porridge, the mum shockingly tells her: "Nooo, it's called oatmeal. Can you call it oatmeal?" After her daughter asks for a bowl, the mum tells her sure, but only if she calls it oatmeal – which is what our friends across the pond call it.

Seconds later, the girl adorably pronounces it 'oh mio. The mum then says to her: "And not porridge. Because it's called oatmeal." After the pronunciation, the post quickly racked up up 49,000 likes and hundreds of comments.

One said: "PORRIDGE IS JUST OATMEAL." While another added: "It's 100% porridge here in the UK." Then a third chimed in: "Porridge UK... Oatmeal... US. You need to teach both."

Others couldn't help but gush over the girl's adorable pronunciation as one wrote: "Oh mio is the cutest thing I've ever heard!" Meanwhile someone commented: "Oatmeal and porridge are the same thing."
